21 maart, het begin van het voorjaar. Een mooi moment om het eerste deel van mijn versie van de ‘Vier Jahreszeiten’, Reflections of the Four Seasons – Spring, te publiceren.
Een ei breekt open en een mini gansje kruipt eruit, kijkt verwonderd rond, strekt zijn pootjes, en kruipt achter zijn moeder aan richting het water. Plons, één, twee, drie, en in een rijtje zwemt hij met zijn broertjes en zusjes het avontuur tegemoet.
Als je naar de muziek luistert, sluit dan je ogen en je zult bij elk nieuwe muzikale thema verschillende soorten bloemen open gaan en het kleurenpalet op de velden zich verder ontwikkelen.
De schoonheid van de ontluikende natuur doet je telkens weer verwonderd staan kijken naar dit nieuwe leven dat zich ontwikkelt na het doodse winterseizoen.
Zo zullen ook de volgende seizoenen gepubliceerd worden zodra hun tijd is gekomen.

March 21, the beginning of spring. A good moment to publish the first part of my version of the ‘Vier Jahreszeiten’, Reflections of the Four Seasons – Spring.
An egg breaks open and a mini goose crawls out, looks around in wonder, stretches its legs, and crawls behind its mother towards the water. Splash, one, two, three, and in a row he swims off to adventure with his little brothers and sisters.
When listening to the music, close your eyes and you will see different types of flowers opening with each new musical theme and the color palette in the fields developing further.
The beauty of the blossoming nature always makes you stand in amazement, as new life develops after the dead winter season.
Likewise, the next seasons will also be published as soon as their time comes.

De geheimen van Valentijn UITGELEGD:
Het feit dat Valentijn priester was en stierf voor zijn geloof in 269 na Christus is voor velen waarschijnlijk een onbekend gegeven. Zijn liefde voor God oversteeg zijn angst voor mensen of zelfs voor de dood. Zijn liefde voor de Koning der koningen en de Heer der heren, of om zo te zeggen de ‘God der goden’, maakte hem tot een martelaar, omdat hij zijn God niet wilde opofferen voor lagere goden (afgoden) of de goddeloze religie van het Romeinse Rijk.
De commercie maakt geen reclame voor het verhaal achter de dood van deze priester. Ze concentreren zich liever op één detail uit de verschillende legendes over deze held. Zoals Franciscus van Assisi de heilige voor de dieren is geworden, werd Valentijn bekend als de liefhebber van bloemen om de chemie tussen twee geliefden te symboliseren.
Maar liefde bestaat alleen omdat God bestaat.

Ongeveer tweehonderd jaar na zijn dood werd Valentijn ‘heilig’ verklaard. Zo werd hij een ‘heilige’. Zogenaamde heiligen bestaan vanwege hun opmerkelijke geloof in God en de speciale daden die voortkomen uit dit door God gegeven geloof.

Mijn nieuwste album ‘Reflections – the Secrets of Valentine’ bevat de volgende nummers:
‘I want to be in love with you forever’ (Ik wil voor altijd verliefd op je zijn)
Jouw intuïtieve reactie op deze titel zal waarschijnlijk anders zijn dan de bedoelde diepere betekenis ervan, die ik hier graag wil uitleggen.
Het is meer dan de simpele wens van een minnaar die in goede harmonie samen wil zijn met zijn dierbare lief(ste), tot de dood hen zal scheiden. Nee, het gaat dieper en verder dan de dood. De ‘liefde voor altijd’ vertelt ons over de Liefde van God, die reikt tot in de eeuwigheid. Hij wil Zijn geliefden voor altijd dicht bij Zijn Hart hebben.
Maar het gaat ook over de liefde van jou en mij voor God, om te verblijven ‘in het Huis van de Heer, tot in lengte van dagen’, en zelfs daarna.
Onze namen staan geschreven in de palm van Zijn hand. Staat Gods Naam in de jouwe geschreven?

‘Whiter than the Snow’ (Witter dan de sneeuw)
De pure en zuiverende kracht van verse witte sneeuw geven je een gevoel van perfectie. De zuivere lucht die je inademt als je ’s morgens vroeg opstaat en als eerste buiten met je voeten in de maagdelijk witte sneeuw stapt. Het is als een droom.
Dat is het beeld dat in Psalm 51 vers 9 wordt opgeroepen. “Als U mijn wast, ben ik witter dan sneeuw,” want als U mijn zonde afwast dan zal ik helemaal schoon zijn.
Dat is het beeld dat in mij werd opgeroepen toen ik deze improvisatie spontaan speelde en gelukkig ook vastlegde in het geheugen van mijn piano.

‘Nocturne Valentine Orchestrale’ (Orkestraal Avondlied voor Valentijn)
Nocturne Valentine (uitgesproken op z’n Frans) is ontstaan vlak voor Valentijnsdag 2023 als een ode aan mijn geliefde vrouw Agnes. Oorspronkelijk vastgelegd als pianostuk wilde zij dan ook die versie als háár cadeau bewaren. Daar ben ik nu ook erg blij mee, dat ik de ‘maiden version’ nog steeds heb, als avondlied, de Nocturne Valentine voor piano (ook te vinden in de playlist van dit album).
Het bleef echter kriebelen en in gedachten hoorde ik van alles gebeuren rondom de vrij eenvoudige pianopartij.
Zo ontstond het nieuwe nummer Nocturne Valentine Orchestrale, ook met een Franse titel. Het werd uiteindelijk een orkestraal nummer met de oorspronkelijke pianomuziek als basis, gelardeerd met wat vrolijke romantiek, een kort dansje, wat ‘Sehnsucht’ en een hint richting ‘Love Story’.
Nocturne Valentine Orchestrale is een heerlijk avondlied wat de ziel tot blijde ontspanning brengt en in gedachten nog urenlang kan doorklinken.

In een van mijn blogs over het album Reflections – Secrets from the Heart, waarmee het nummer Infinity haar debuut maakte, schreef ik het volgende: “Je kunt de repeat-knop voor het hele album op oneindig instellen, eindeloos herhalen.
Grappiggenoeg heet het eerste nummer: Infinity. Het is een van de kortste nummers, maar ik vind het nummer zelf eindeloos mooi, rustgevend, troostend, bemoedigend, opbeurend, liefdevol, vrolijk, etcetera “
Een schitterend duet door harp en dwarsfluit, in een rustige balans tussen beide instrumenten. Het brengt een sfeer van eindeloze sereniteit en intimiteit. Zelf vind ik het een ultieme uitdrukking van liefde van een vergankelijk mens tot zijn Eeuwige Schepper, hunkering naar een ‘eindeloos samenzijn’.
Dit is ook echt zo’n nummer waarmee je graag wakker wordt gemaakt. Stel het in als geluid voor je ochtend-alarm, en zo word je elke dag goedgemutst wakker.

‘You are my Favorite’ is geschreven voor de 50e verjaardag van mijn lieve vrouw Agnes en eerst gereleast als single op verschillende streamingdiensten. Op de cover staat een close-up foto van haar in Israël, terwijl ze de geur van een prachtige bougainville opsnuift.
Nu is dit het nummer ook opgenomen in het Album ‘Reflections – Secrets from the Heart’ en in het Album ‘Reflections – The Secrets of Valentine’, en dat is niet toevallig, het is de reflectie van een diep geheim.
De dubbele boodschap die het nummer verhult, is een weerspiegeling van mijn diepste verlangen dat niet alleen mijn vrouw mijn favoriet is maar ook dat God mij (en jou) ziet als Zijn oogappel, Zijn favoriete schepsel dat Hij koestert, liefheeft en omringt met zorg en liefde. Een lied dus van toewijding en bemoediging.
Het muzikale thema dat de titel dekt, is pas te horen in de tweede helft van het nummer en resoneert de woorden ‘You are my Favorite, You are the only one’.
De schoonheid en intimiteit van dit lied is te vinden in de eenvoud van de melodie, die alleen door de fluit wordt vertolkt in samenspraak met de piano.

Vanwege het Franse sfeertje in dit Jazzy nummer kreeg dit liefdeslied zijn titel.
Het nodigt uit tot een intiem dansje. En wie weerhoudt jou ervan om dat ook daadwerkelijk te doen, met jouw Valentijn, of gewoon in je eentje?

Met al je innerlijke verwarring en vragen mag je in dit lied in een heerlijke cadans tot rust komen, bij MIJ, dat is bij JEZUS.

The secrets of Valentine EXPLAINED:
The fact that Valentine was a priest and died for his faith in 269 AD is probably unknown to many. His love for God transcended his fear of people or even death. His love for the King of kings and the Lord of lords, or so to speak the ‘God of gods’, made him a martyr, because he would not sacrifice his God for lesser gods (idols) or the wicked religion of the Roman empire.
Commercialism does not promote the story behind this priest’s death. They prefer to concentrate on one detail from the various legends about this hero. Just as Francis of Assisi became the saint for animals, Valentine became known as the lover of flowers to symbolize the chemistry between two lovers.

Your intuitive reaction to this title will probably be different from its intended deeper meaning, which I would like to explain here. It is more than the simple wish of a lover who wants to be in good harmony with his dearest love, until death will part them. No, it goes deeper and further than death. The ‘love forever’ tells us about the Love of God, which reaches into eternity. He wants to have His loved ones close to His Heart forever. But it is also about your and my love for God, to abide ‘in the House of the Lord forever and ever’, and even beyond.
Our names are written in the palm of His hand. Is God’s Name written in yours?

The image of a bride symbolizes beauty, vulnerability, purity, intimacy, love, devotion and faithfulness.

The pure and purifying power of fresh white snow gives you a feeling of perfection. It is like the pure air you breathe when you get up early in the morning and you are the first to step outside with your feet in the pristine white snow. It’s like a dream.
That is the image evoked in Psalm 51 verse 9. “If You wash me, I will be whiter than snow,” for if You wash away my sin, I will be completely clean.
That is the image that was conjured up in my mind when I spontaneously played this improvisation and fortunately also recorded it in the memory of my piano.

‘Nocturne Valentine Orchestrale’
Nocturne Valentine (pronounced French) was created just before Valentine’s Day 2023 as an ode to my beloved wife Agnes. Originally recorded as a piano piece, she wanted to keep that version as her gift. I am now very happy that I still have the ‘maiden version’ as an evening song, the Nocturne Valentine for piano (also found in the playlist of this album).
However, it kept tickling me and in my mind I heard all kinds of things happening around the fairly simple piano part.
This is how the new song Nocturne Valentine Orchestrale was born, also with a French title. It ultimately became an orchestral number with the original piano music as a basis, interspersed with some cheerful romance, a short dance, some ‘Sehnsucht’ and a hint towards ‘Love Story’.
Nocturne Valentine Orchestrale is a wonderful evening song that brings the soul to joyful relaxation and can continue to resonate in your mind for hours.

In one of my blogs about the album Reflections – Secrets from the Heart, with which the song Infinity made its debut, I wrote the following: “You can set the repeat button for the entire album to infinity, repeat endlessly.
Funnily enough, the first song is called: Infinity. It is one of the shortest songs, but I find the song itself endlessly beautiful, soothing, comforting, encouraging, uplifting, loving, cheerful, etc. “
A beautiful duet by harp and flute, in a quiet balance between both instruments. It brings an atmosphere of endless serenity and intimacy. I personally think it is an ultimate expression of love of a transient human being for his Eternal Creator, yearning for an ‘endless togetherness’.
This is really a song that you like to wake up with. Set it as your morning alarm sound to wake up in a good mood every day.

‘You are my Favorite’ was written for the 50th birthday of my dear wife Agnes and first released as a single on various streaming services. The cover features a close-up photo of her in Israel, smelling the scent of a beautiful bougainvillea.
Now this song is also included in the Album ‘Reflections – Secrets from the Heart’ and in the Album ‘Reflections – The Secrets of Valentine’, and that is not a coincidence, it is the reflection of a deep secret.
The dual message that the song conceals is a reflection of my deepest desire that not only is my wife my favorite but also that God sees me (and you) as the apple of His eye, His favorite creature that He cherishes, loves and surrounds with care and love. A song of dedication and encouragement.
The musical theme that covers the title is only heard in the second half of the song and resonates with the words ‘You are my Favorite, You are the only one’.
The beauty and intimacy of this song is found in the simplicity of the melody, which is performed only by the flute in consultation with the piano.
